Privacy
What this site records about you (very little), and how it handles public records about people.
Visiting the site
PolitiWard has no accounts, advertising, analytics, tracking pixels or cookies, and it uses no browser storage. Fonts, icons and maps load from this site.
The web server keeps an access log of each request: the time, the page address (which includes any search words and filters, because they are part of the address), the response, and the headers your browser sends with it, such as the referring page, its description of itself and your preferred language (cookies are not recorded). Your network (IP) address is shortened before it is written (the last part of an IPv4 address, most of an IPv6 address, is removed). Logs are deleted after 14 days. They are used to keep the site working, to investigate abuse, and to count which pages and features are used. They are not shared or sold.
Those counts are daily totals only: page views by section, which filters were used, CSV downloads and errors. Search words are counted only when at least three searches used them that day. The totals contain no addresses, browser details or individual visits, and are kept.
To stop one visitor from overwhelming the site, each server process counts requests per address for one minute, in memory only; the count is never written down.
The hosting provider and any network in between handle your connection under their own policies. Links to source documents and other sites take you to services with their own privacy policies.

Public records about people
PolitiWard republishes public records about people in public life and about campaign contributors. Alberta's Local Authorities Election Act requires each campaign's disclosure statement, including contributors' names and amounts, to be published; the City publishes them without contributors' addresses.
For contributors, PolitiWard shows the name, amount, date, recipient and, where published, the municipality. It never shows street addresses or contact details. Contributor pages ask search engines not to index them. Names are read from scanned forms and matched across statements by name, so a gift can be misread, or two people who share a name can be combined.
A contribution, a vote or a statement shown here does not establish influence, agreement or wrongdoing.
Corrections
PolitiWard corrects its own errors: a misread amount, a wrong date, or two people combined under one name. Please contact PolitiWard with the page address, what is wrong and, if you can, a public source that shows the correct record. Do not send identification documents or other sensitive information.
A contributor entry you dispute is hidden within two business days while it is checked, then corrected, or restored with a note. Changes to an official record (a disclosure statement or Council minutes) must be made by the City; PolitiWard then reflects the corrected record.
Correction messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve them and record the change, and for no more than two years.
